My plans for my weekend in Igatpuri were very different. I wanted to be outside much of the time, roaming the hills, pausing at views, and taking in as much of the scenery as I could. Then it started to rain, and all of a sudden the meticulously organised weekend didn’t seem to make sense.
I initially believed that the vacation would be less enjoyable due to the weather. Rather, it altered my perception of Igatpuri. Under a grey sky, sites that would have been commonplace on a dry day seemed entirely different. The hills vanished behind mist, and the flora appeared brighter. By the end of the weekend, one of the things that brought back memories of the trip was the rain.
The rain almost changed my Igatpuri plans
During the monsoon, when the neighbouring Sahyadris become green and waterfalls emerge around the hills, Igatpuri is very charming. According to Maharashtra Tourism, the area is renowned for its foggy scenery, waterfalls, and historic forts. During the rainy season, locations like Vihigaon Waterfall become particularly alluring. That almost seems perfect until the weather starts to interfere with your plans.
I started to envision a slower itinerary rather than rushing from one attraction to another. When the roads were damp and the hills were shrouded in clouds, there was less motivation to rush. I paused because of the rain, and that was a wonderful thing.
Igatpuri looked different through the mist
One of my favourite things about monsoon travel is how familiar landscapes can suddenly look unfamiliar. Igatpuri appeared to possess the trait. For example, the Bhatsa River Valley is renowned for its verdant surroundings, cliffs, and waterfalls during the monsoon. While Vihigaon Waterfall becomes a seasonal attraction surrounded by forests and rugged terrain, Ghatandevi Temple is situated against the backdrop of the Sahyadri Alps.
I began to enjoy the beauty in between locations instead of attempting to see everything. The weekend had a slower pace thanks to the sound of rain, water trickling down the roadside, and mist drifting across the hills.
I learned to leave some space in my Igatpuri itinerary
When I travel, I usually prefer to know what I’m going to do next. That strategy was challenging due to a wet weekend in Igatpuri. Plans for outdoor activities, especially those near waterfalls and hiking paths, are far more dependent on the weather. According to Maharashtra Tourism, the monsoon offers the area beautiful scenery and striking waterfalls, but it can also make outdoor activities more difficult while it’s raining.
I began to leave spaces between plans rather than viewing every shower as a hassle. This meant taking extra time to take in the scenery, eating more slowly, or just waiting for the rain to stop before making a decision. Those spontaneous breaks turned into some of the weekend’s highlights.
Where I stayed became important in Igatpuri
Additionally, the weather changed my perspective on lodging. I might be content to pick a hotel primarily for its location on a sunny vacation. Having a comfortable place to go to in between excursions became much more important on a rainy weekend.
If I were organising the trip, I would browse hotels in Igatpuri and pick one that would serve as a convenient starting point for visiting neighbouring sites and provide me with a cosy place to rest when it started to rain.
A rain that became a memory
I learned by the end of the weekend that I was no longer hoping for a clear sky. The trip I had envisioned was not what Igatpuri had offered me. The rain made the foliage more vibrant, the mist softened the hills, and the slower pace allowed me to take in subtleties I may have missed.
I think that’s why the weekend stuck with me. I had anticipated that the weather might disrupt my plans when I travelled to Igatpuri. Rather, the plans became calmer and more memorable due to the weather. Sometimes a trip becomes memorable not because everything goes as planned but rather because it offers you an excuse to take your time and discover the place in a new way.
