Thoughts on Russia’s Invasion of Ukraine – Rick Steves’ Travel Blog

Currently is a profoundly sad day. Russia’s aggressive action is heartbreaking for the dying, suffering, and economic turmoil it will induce in Ukraine and, indirectly at the very least, past. Here at Rick Steves’ Europe, we hope that a diplomatic resolution can be uncovered and peace will return to that fragile and very long-suffering section of our planet.

Our mission at RSE is to aid People improved know and have an understanding of our neighbors by vacation. But when we provide vacationers to one more state, we also carry their dollars — bucks that would help Putin’s aggression. Hence, as of today, we have canceled all 2022 tours that contain a prevent in Russia.

Of system, we will preserve a near eye on unfolding situations and keep track of any journey impacts via the relaxation of Europe. But it is important to hold geographic realities in intellect and try to remember that a war in Ukraine is as much from our European holiday vacation dreams as a war in Guatemala would be from Texas or Florida. For 40 decades now, we have lived, labored, and traveled as a result of numerous periods of tragic warfare in lands much from the place we direct our excursions (and some nearer). And at this time, we see no reason to change the rest of our journey and touring options.

The tragic reality unfolding in Ukraine only reminds me how critical it is for Americans to preserve on traveling and to do so in a way that will make us improved and much more engaged citizens of our globe. I’m traveling to Europe future thirty day period for a 40-working day trip by a dozen terrific metropolitan areas from London to Athens — and I’m proud that 1000’s of my fellow vacationers will expertise the European vacation of their goals even though possessing wealthy finding out ordeals much from dwelling on a 2022 Rick Steves tour.

In the meantime, let’s be thankful for our blessings, help our nation’s leaders as they do their best to navigate this disaster, and keep the troubled corners of our world (Ukraine, Russia, Afghanistan, and extra) in our thoughts and prayers.
